▪️Sara Benoy originally went to school for graphic design, but then learned that a desk job is not for her. She grew up hanging out with her dad in the garage and has always enjoyed working with her hands.
▫️She knew she wanted to get into a trade, but didn’t think it was an option for her until later in life. Which is why she started the Nerdygirlmechanic page in the first place : To encourage others to get involved in the trades!
▪️She tried a few different automotive careers, diesel and regular auto mechanics for a while. But ended up falling in love with the HVAC industry. She started at a great company working in the warehouse/parts department, which taught her a lot of valuable information to help in her career.
▫️Sara enrolled in trade school to become a maintenance technician and began her apprenticeship with her workplace. She is now one semester in, and is absolutely loving it! She enjoys being out in the field.
▪️Sara also has a podcast called “Women Behind The Wrench” where she interviews and features awesome women in the trades! She has a lot of fun learning about different women and their careers.
▫️Sara says “It’s been a lot of fun getting to know people in the trades community and I’m not sure what I’d do without them! They’ve been so supportive. My main goal is to connect and encourage! I hope to finish school next year and get out as a service technician.”
▪️ @nerdygirlmechanic Thank you so much for sharing your incredible story with me, and for helping bring awareness to the amazing women in the trades! I very much look forward to seeing what you do next! 🥰
